Built for Schools. Grounded in Practice.

About Us

At Unmute, we exist to bridge the gap between overstretched statutory services and the immediate, complex needs of secondary schools and colleges across Manchester.

Professional With Clear Purpose

Unmute was established to bridge the gap between overstretched statutory services and the immediate, complex needs of school communities across Manchester.

We bring together 20 years of expertise and real-world educational experience to deliver support that is both professionally rigorous and genuinely accessible. Our work is not removed or reactive, we operate within the school environment itself, embedding therapeutic support where it is needed most.

By creating a space where students and staff can safely “unmute” what’s often left unsaid, we enable clearer thinking, stronger resilience, and more sustainable outcomes across the whole school community.

Delivering Impact Across the Whole School Community

  • "For the first time, I didn't feel like I was being 'diagnosed' or talked down to. Unmute helped me find the words for things I’ve been keeping on silent for years. I finally feel like I’m back in the driver’s seat."

  • "I used to skip college because the anxiety was too loud. My counsellor at Unmute actually got it. They didn't just give me worksheets; they gave me a space to be real. It’s made a massive difference to my grades and my head."

    A-Level Student, Manchester

  • "We see the Unmute service as a part of our commitment to our staff and pupil's mental wellbeing. Buying in their service is a decision we are proud of."

    School Headteacher

  • "Having someone to talk to who understands what it's like for us now was huge. It’s the one hour a week I feel like I don’t have to pretend I’m fine."

Supporting Diverse Voices & Experiences

Unmute’s Lead Counsellor brings over 20 years of experience supporting young people from a wide range of backgrounds and communities, including LGBT+ and Trans/NB students, Global Majority communities, neurodivergent young people, and those from diverse cultural and faith backgrounds.

Our approach recognises diversity as a strength and understands the impact that discrimination, marginalisation, and social inequality can have on a young person’s emotional wellbeing, identity, and sense of belonging. Inclusion, respect, and cultural awareness are embedded throughout our practice, ensuring every young person feels heard, understood, and supported within a safe and affirming environment.
